Re: Request for Access Logs and Educational Records of [Student Name], [Grade], [School]
Pursuant to NRS 392.029 and NAC 388.287, and federal law under FERPA (20 U.S.C. § 1232g, 34 C.F.R. Part 99), I hereby request inspection, review, and copies of the following:
Access logs showing all non-educational staff (including IT personnel, network engineers, system administrators) who accessed my child’s documents, chats, or search history in the district systems. Please include name, date/time, and stated purpose of access (as required by NAC 388.287).
Copies of all communications or records so accessed (e.g. chat transcripts, Google Docs versions, search logs) unless legally exempt.
A list or log maintained by the agency of “persons, other than parents and authorized employees” who were given access, per NAC 388.287(4).
Documentation of the district’s policies around internal access to student accounts (especially technology staff), including what training or oversight is required, and whether they are subject to “legitimate educational interest” under FERPA.
Please fulfill this request without unnecessary delay and not later than 45 days from your receipt, as required under NAC 388.287. If you impose any fee for copying records, please inform me in writing and ensure it does not effectively deny me access per NAC 388.287(7).
Thank you for your cooperation.
